Movin’ on Again

Left Emil & Sara’s this morning after pouring twice as much stuff into the Prius as was ever imagined at Toyota.  Talk about five pounds in a three pound bag!  Weather was cool with high overcast and ever so slightly hazy.  We got up to Mule deer on the back lawn around  7:00 and got out of town around 9:30

Yesterday was quite full in spite of a late start.  We went to Smith Rock State Park and had a picnic lunch while watching the climbers.  The Crooked River runs through the park and as you can see, it is beautiful.

Emil and I went back to fish the legendary evening hatch on the Deschutes afterward.  We stayed until dark (legal fishing ends 30 min after sunset) and never did see a real hatch.  We did get a few small rainbows (nothing over 15” [a true Alaskan fisherman would still be accurate and phrase that as “nothing over 30”] ) but they were sure pretty.  The locals call the native rainbows “red sides” and you can see why, even though the picture doesn’t quite get all their glory.

Old guy fishing at night.  It got a lot easier after I took off the dark glasses.

Sara’s full service lodge waited dinner for us so once again we went to bed fat, full and contented.  Only problem with that when I got up, I was still fat, but stiff, sore and hungry.  It’s a vicious cycle!

Saturday the 16th,

The Honeymoon’s Over!

Don’t know when I’ll get this posted as we are at the mercy of available wireless connections on the road.  We are at the Downtown La Quinta in Sacremento and the connection really sucks.

I gave up on the connection and will try to finish this while Teri drives to Stockton, our fuel and brunch stop.  Maybe there I can get this posted.

But why, you may ask, is the honeymoon over?  Our car finally lied to us.  We let it search for a restaurant in the Sacramento area and take us there.  Not only was the route screwy, but when we heard, “you have arrived at your destination, the route guidance is now finished”, there was nothing but office buildings.  Oh well, nothing lasts forever.
