Pantry Done

Got the pantry finished.

Just doing the bottom two sections as the top section is harder to use with pull outs. I submitted designs, but they didn't pass the architectural review stage.

So here is the final configuration.

All the drawers pull out to the same length, some were left in for clarity?

That leaves two more cabinets with four drawers each.

Meanwhile, we looked at the Alaska Teague's future home.

It's perfect and newly remodeled. The attached garage/shop looks adequate. I volunteered to move into the studio apartment over the small door of the garage in exchange for moving every tool I own into the shop. Larry is considering my offer.

Weather is not perfect; freezing fog. I blame Sherilyn. It's forecasted to get perfect again when she leaves.

Stay warm; I hear it's cold in other parts of the country, like Atlanta.

Kitchen Pullouts, Again

Made some progress.

Step one empty the cabinet and install the angle iron.

The inside view. Used the camera on wifi remote; don't know the range but was fun.

Here it is with all the screws in.

Then repeat the process on the lower section. Once all the redundant ledgers are installed it was simple to cut off the bottom stile and install the full width drawers.

Have one more drawer to go in this section, then on to the upper section. Not removing the stile in that one as there will be lots of special use drawers and shelves up there.

Should have this filled back up with stuff by days end tomorrow.

Haven't noticed the weather, I assume it's perfect. Hope it stays that way for Sherilyn's visit next week.

Kitchen Pull Outs Update

Not a lot has been accomplished since last update.

Did finish the first cabinet.
Notice that the fronts required cut outs to provide clearance for the door hinges.  This was an aggravating and unforeseen development. It will probably be unavoidable on a few of the drawers yet to go as well.

Decided to do the pantry next. The bottom three drawers will be 32" wide so modifications are necessary. This will involve installing two angle iron headers to make up for removing a section of the center stile. Should all make sense when I get photos of the process.
The center vertical stile will be cut off at the top of the bottom set of doors and be attached to the back of one of them. This will allow the full width drawer shown below. The pieces of angle iron go inside the cabinet and bridges the full width to make up for the removed piece. There will be one behind each horizontal gap between the doors. Simple. I can hardly wait to crawl inside to install them.

I've got two of these assembled. That leaves one more full width and four more half width drawers to assemble before we get to the crawling inside part. Teri's getting antsy.

Good thing the weather is so perfect.

Yep, I Still Hate Redeyes

Got that last sunset.

After a serious farewell photo for Grandma.

Then a wave goodbye to my favorite palm.

Finally, dinner with the Sodens, including the Alaska branch (we were tagteaming with them) and off on a midnight redeye to Portland.  We got into Redmond around noon. Teri had a short afternoon nap and crashed for the night before 7 PM. I am probably running on fumes and just don't know it. Pretty sure I got that from my grand children.

Neighbors picked us up at the airport and said the weather here has been perfect so I won't put the sunscreen away yet. Gotta go as I've got a full day tomorrow.

Stay warm and al

Last Day in Paradise

Last full day so we all went to the aquarium.

The kids aren't bored, really, just a little tired. There was a lot to see.

They'd seen so many fish they were beginning to feel like one.

There were all kinds and types.

Even sea horses.

And a few that didn't look real, till they moved, which you had to be patient to see as it didn't happen often.
Living in a blue screen room, they begged for photoshop.

We got to hear lots of explanations of just what we were seeing and even got in on feeding time in the big tank. It had rays and sharks as well as all the other, shallow reef fish. It is one of the better aquariums we've seen, but they all have their unique displays.

Haven't seen any humpbacks, they are starting to show up, but they'll be back in numbers soon.

Gonna try for one last sunset in a few minutes so...........

Stay Warm!

Bye Bye '13

Can't say as I'll miss it. 2013 had some big changes for me, not all good, but that is a story for another time.

Met Amy, Derek, Molly and Spencer at the airport yesterday.

Of course the first stop was Costco. Grab a quick lunch and stock up for the rest of the trip.
Lots of energy in Grandkids that have been traveling all day.

Pole dancing while waiting for mom & dad to finish.

Went down to the beach this morning to pound sand and conquer the surf.
This is our beach right after sunset; a state beach with good snorkeling at both ends and mini waves for the kids.

Molly got a little water up her nose on one of her first rides.
She soon figured it out and caught many a wave.
Meanwhile, Spencer moves sand.

Finally got everyone out but it was Molly that did the "surfing".

Spencer had to concentrate on not loseing his pants.
A couple of the waves almost pulled them off.

Everyone had fun and brought back lots of sand in their suits.

Later, I snuck back down for the sunset which promised better that it produced.

So ends 2013. A year of adjustments ( but aren't they all ) good riddance.

I'm finishing this up as the fireworks go off hourly for all the time zones across the nation. Just finished the west coast.  Hopefully, it will quite down after midnight until the birds wake us up at dawn. There is one species that looks like a cross between a dove and a quail that has unbelievable volume. As they forage in the landscaping outside our balcony, they crank it up to about 120 decibels as they let everyone know just what they are finding. Pound for pound they develope more volume than anything I've ever heard. There is no ignoring them. Too bad there aren't any roosters in the immediate area, they aren't nearly as annoying.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year. Next year will be better!
