Home

Made it back.

All works well with the exception of the disposal, it doesn't.  We've been expecting it's demise for some time now; had to use the wrench to get it turning after any trip. Now I can turn the shaft with difficulty and the motor can't.  So, today is disposal day.

Weather is perfect again. Had the first "major winter storm of 2013" pass through last night. Have to look long and hard in the shady spots to find any trace of it here; guess it did snow a little higher up. Sunny and breezy now with 38 degrees. Perfect. Waiting to hear from the Teagues who should have just returned from their trip to Arizona where they got to experience at least two snows.

Back to projects, trips to Portland (first is next weekend) and still fine tuning the nesting. I'll try to get some photos worthy of posting.  Till then,

Stay Warm!

In Boise

Made it past what hopefully will be our last front on the trip to Redmond. Looks like the cold front we just drove through on I80/I84 will dip way south and kick ass all the way to the East coast. We plan to stay here one day with John & Mary then get home Thursday afternoon.

Got the TV, mail, water and trash all turned on at 80 mph in the middle of Wyoming. You gotta love cell phones.  Looks like there will still be plenty of winter left over; the Timbers home opener is March 3rd and it always pours for that game. Then Teri heads for LA and I dive into projects.

Hope you all are holding up, stay warm.

Grand kids

Yes they are!

Travis sent some pics of Ryan and Judy's recent visit.  I think this might be Louis' first time on horseback.

Meanwhile today we took Molly, Spencer and a friend to the Denver Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  They have a super exhibit on the mastodons and some great wild life dioramas.
First everyone got to help at the dig.
 Spencer scored a big one
Then met the largest bear I ever seen
They also had lots of dinosaurs.

While we were in the Space exhibit they were playing RT (Russia Today) network footage of the large meteor that blew up over Russia this morning.

It is now 4:40 and we are back home eating popcorn and watching "The Sound of Music".

Looking now at the weather patterns as we need a two day window to get as far as John and Mary's in Boise.  Last thing we need is to hit a blizzard on I80 crossing Wyoming.

Stay warm.

Birthday

Yes, today was mine. I pretty much don't like them but looks like everybody else needs to make a big deal of them. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed getting phone calls from family and friends today.  It was good to catch up with everyone. I just don't get the need to celebrate.

I guess it all starts with the one year old demolishing a cupcake that they don't particularly care to eat and progresses from there. Then there is the need to have milestones that tell us where we should be in life. But after 16 and 21 they are all downhill markers. The main theme being how much faster and closer they occur. The things that I notice now as milestones or markers in my life are the things that I have done for the last time. Hopefully that includes falling in the stream as well as off the roof. Not likely.

Went to an aviation exhibit with Les Hatch yesterday.  Always good to see old airplanes.

There was mostly old Air Force jets but there were some interesting antiques too. This early water cooled engine had two valves per cylinder. They were both operated by the same push rod. The rocker opened the exhaust valve on the upstroke and opened the intake valve on the down stroke (at least that is what appeared to be happening).
These were 30+ megaton bombs that were carried by the B1 bomber (the bomb bays are right above the bombs).
Here's the manufactures data plate located at the center of gravity.

There was even a battle scarred X wing fighter.

Complete with R2D2 copilot.
The front entrance had a B52, always an attention getter.

Nothing special planned for tomorrow. Hope your day went well.

Staying warm.

Meet Bama

Here he is.
Terrifying ain't he.
Careful, he does like to try out his razor sharp puppy teeth on toes.

Going either to Coors or the Wings over the Rockies exhibit tomorrow; maybe both if we are really energetic. Us retired types like to play it by ear.

In Denver

Safe and sound in Denver.  Can't believe we got in and out of the Washburne's without a single photo.  They just got a new puppy and now I am depending on Trey to email me a photo of "Bama" for the blog.  He is an eight week old Shih tzu.  Here is a like to Google Images of shih tzu puppies:
Puppies
They are too cute.

A light snow last night.  I'll try for some photos later.

Stay warm.
