Back Home, Briefly

Got all our fish, kicked Roger off the island and cleaned up a bit of our mess.  Took the trailer back to the Worsfold B&B/RV rental.
Bill finally got a much over due tractor to handle the snow.  Complete with rear tiller, front snow thrower and bucket with brush forks.  He is so ready for winter.
He is getting spoiled. Actually doing car repair under a roof, on pavement and not in the snow. What are the odds of having a set of new rotors sitting around the garage when the old ones go out?
We went to the KBBI (local public radio) annual concert on the grass. What a setting. On the hillside above downtown Homer, on the park grass with the mountains and glaciers for a backdrop.

We brought everything necessary to sustain life at a concert.

I had a great couple of days mellowing out after the usual rush to catch every fish in the river. Jake got back from a grueling week at a high altitude training camp, Annie elected not to submit herself to such torture.  I'll post their photos as soon as I get permission. The next day Bill chauffeured me back to Soldotna where Tony took over getting me out of town.  We couldn't have done it without Tony and Bill. Already working on next year.

Just got back from the airport with the three fishboxes but still await the suitcase.  If they have to delay any bags, better it is not the frozen ones.

Looks like tomorrow we leave for Baker City where grandpa gets to catch up with the Soden grand children.

No rest for those who must fish.

Stay cool!

Photos for previous post

Shed on left, garage on right

Done

Rog and I finished up fishing for Reds yesterday. Could be a new record for us. We caught our limit (12) in 58 min. Today we processed the bulk of them but it will still be a few more days in the smokers. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44124333611@N01/7647218798/in/photostream Tony's shed will never smell the same. His garage is starting to smell like Snug Harbor Seafoods retail outlet/processing plant. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44124333611@N01/7647215266/in/photostream These links should get you to My photostream at Flickr, as it seems the photos don't want to display using this method. It is a work in progress. Rog leaves tomorrow and the next day I head to Homer for some R&R at the Worsfold preserve. I'll put the photos up on a post above.

Another day another halibut

Bill tries out a new rod.
First fish is large but not something we eat.
A fine bucket of butt.
Call CSI, it looks like there has been a murder.

Normal blog format will resume when I get back to using the laptop.

Weather here is back to perfect.

Hanging with Lords and Butts

Went out with Bill for halibut.  Beautiful day! We discovered a new bait when in the mouth/stomach of the largest fish of the day we found an Irish Lord. The ever frugal Bill managed to get it out and cut off the tail for bait.

He proceeded to catch six fish on that one tail. The skin was like iron and they never were able to get it off the hook.

Back to Basics

Roger got in around midnight and we got out on the river by 11 AM the next morning.

Roger and I got our three and were waiting for Tony to finish up. First I demonstrated the fine art of netting the evasive Sockeye, then I let him try.

Almost, then finally......

Tomorrow a 6:00 am launch in Homer with Bill.

Weather not perfect anymore; clear and mid 60s. Oh well, somebody has to do it.

Learning Process

OK. I've got a new app that lets me down load photos from various sites in the cloud. So I added the photos for the previous post at the end. Next time I'll try to integrate them into the text. We'll see.

Tony, John and I went out in Tony's boat and got our first reds. Which are in the brine as we speak.

Tomorrow looks like more of the same; what a surprise.

Still raining and in the 50s, perfect fishing weather.

Habitat Established

Went to Homer to pick up BW's trailer and see the AK grand kids.

First stop was at the Olson Mountain Brewers.

Finally got the rig on the road and installed it at Tony's B&B and RV lot.

Tomorrow we get the gear ready and then we are ready to resume our research into the sex life of the Sockeye.

Photos will be forthcoming as soon as I learn how to get them from my camera to my iPad. Any suggestions are welcome.

Perfect weather for fishing continues.

The Reds Are Calling

Leaving this morning on a four legged flight to Kenai where, if all goes well, Tony will pick me up just before midnight.  Roger will join us a few days later and we will then continue our extensive research into the life cycle of the Sockeye.

It doesn't look like the "bear cubs" will be joining us this year, so we will have to provide our own comic relief.  Never been a problem in the past, someone is always going for an unscheduled swim.

Hopefully I will be able to post some photos of the wildlife (not Good Time Charlie's) without getting eaten by same.

Tony reports the weather is perfect there for fishing.  Highs in the low 50s and raining.  Weather here is still perfect but I must continue my research so my next post should be sometime soon from somewhere near the the spawning grounds.

Till then, be careful out there.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the garage...

Sorry for the low productivity these last few days; seems like there was a football tournament in Europe.  Watched the final between Spain and Italy today.  No spoilers here; I watched it just a few minutes behind live.  I will say, great game!

Teri has been unpacking boxes.  I've been building cabinets for the shop.

Now to set up the new cabinet saw and make drawers and doors.

Sara and Emil have been packing and moving.  By the way, nice table Sara.
We are headed for Portland Tues for a visit to the VA and a Timbers game.

Weather still perfect here.
