Got the compass rose in and the finishing crew has sanded and applied three coats of finish.
First was a race to get the rose done and in the floor by Wednesday morning.
This is the background pieces before cutting the hole for the rose.
This is the rose in place. All I have to do is project the outline to show what part of the background has to go.
Here is everything in place, in the floor.
Here's the entry from the living room side.
And the door side.
The dining room.
The hallway.
You can see Teri's efforts to keep the transition from light to dark wood taking place inside each board rather that on the milled edge. The finishers were impressed and we are pleased with the results.
Teri still thinks the rose belongs on the wall instead in the floor. Got to admit, she gave in and let me do my thing. Now I need everyone to validate my position. So far opinions seem to be lining up with a gender bias. The guys like it; the women, not so much. I'll admit, it would probably go better in the man cave, but that will never see wood flooring.
We are off to Portland this weekend and then it's replace the base, move the furniture back and relay the carpet.
With this done we can turn our attention to the outside. Just in time as the weather is perfect.
Stay warm.
